In 2026 searching for things on the internet without paying remains a big way for businesses to grow online. But it’s getting harder to get noticed. Search engines are now answering questions right on the search results page. AI-powered experiences are changing how people find information. Traditional clicks on search results are steadily going down. To stay ahead businesses must understand the SEO facts and changing search habits in 2026. From who uses which search engine and AI-generated results to SEO problems and changing user behavior. Data-driven insights are now crucial for building a good SEO plan.

The truth is that SEO today is not about ranking high on search engines. Success depends on being visible, in AI-driven search results, business listings, shopping results and well-designed web pages that turn visitors into customers. In this article we look at the important SEO facts and trends for 2026 to help businesses create better future-ready marketing campaigns.

SEO Trends for 2026

  • The way people see a website is changing. This is a big deal for companies. Now it is important to have your company name mentioned to be cited and to appear in answers that are generated by intelligence. This is just as important as being ranked high in search results.
  • It is more important to get people to click on your website than it is to be at the top of the search results page. This is because search results pages are getting more complicated with intelligence summaries, ads, shopping information and local business listings.
  • The technical side of search engine optimization is getting more complicated. If a website is big or takes a long time to load it can have problems being seen by search engines even if it has good content.
  • How much people trust a brand and how much they are searching for it is becoming more important. This is because searches for a brand and general searches are treated differently by artificial intelligence.
  • The way we track search engine optimization is changing. Now companies need to look at platforms including search engines and artificial intelligence assistants to see how people are finding their website and what is working and what is not.

They used information from the industry and data from the market to see how people are searching for things now. Bloom Agency found out some things that show how people are using intelligence search and regular search engines to find things online.

The Bloom Agency wants to help people know what is happening with visibility in 2026.

4) The people at Bloom Agency looked at how people use intelligence to search for things on the internet. They found out that seventy four percent of people use artificial intelligence search platforms at least one time every week. This shows that people are using intelligence to find things on the internet more and more in the year 2026.

8) The analysis also showed that twenty-five percent of users trust AI search tools more. On the hand twenty-five percent still prefer traditional search engines because they are more reliable and accurate.

These 2026 SEO statistics show how quickly online discovery is changing. People are now using more than traditional search engines. This is why businesses are starting to include AI visibility, in their SEO and digital marketing reports.

AI Overviews: Visibility, Click Impact and Citations

Bloom Agency looked at a lot of data about what people search for online and what results they get from search engines. They wanted to see how things are changing with search engines in 2026. They were trying to figure out how search engines that use intelligence affect how easy it is to find things online how often brands are mentioned and how people discover new things when they search for something, on the internet.

1) By January 2026 38 percent of AI Overview citations were connected to websites that were in the top 10 search results. This shows that it is still very important to have organic rankings if you want to be seen in search results that use AI.

This statistic about search engine optimization shows why the old way of ranking is still important, for being visible when people use search engines that are powered by AI.

SERP Volatility and Ranking Dynamics

1) From March 1 to March 18 2026 the SERP URL churn was really high it went from 80 percent to 82 percent. This means that the search results were changing a lot during this time. (Quattr)

2) Then from March 19, to March 29 2026 the SERP URL churn went down to 65 percent. So the search results were not changing much as they were before it was a bit more stable. (Quattr)

3) Between March 31 and April 8 2026 the AI Overview query share went up fast from 8.7%, to 19.0%. This is based on looking at 14 enterprise portfolios that cover 1.6 million domains according to Quattr.

This change shows how fast AI-driven search features are getting bigger and it reminds us why it is so important to keep an eye on the ups and downs of search engine results for protecting AI Overview performance and SEO performance in 2026.

Technical SEI and Crawling

1. Googlebot can look at up to 2 MB of information for each web page this includes the HTTP headers, when it is crawling the web pages. (Google Search Central)

2. If we are talking about PDF files Googlebot can handle a lot information, up to 64 MB. (Google Search Central)

3. Sometimes a crawler does not say how information it can look at in these cases the amount of information it can look at is limited to 15 MB for all types of content. (Google Search Central)

These technical SEO rules show how important Technical SEO statistics are when we are actually doing SEO. Because the limits, on crawling and processing can quietly stop even very good web pages from being indexed and ranked by Technical SEO.

2025 SEO Statistics

Below is a list of SEO stats in 2025 that still hold strong:

AI Search and AI Platforms

ChatGPT was responsible for 79.8% of all chatbot-driven referrals to websites worldwide. Perplexity accounted for 11.8% while Microsoft Copilot generated 5.2% and Google Gemini made up 2%.

This data backs up SEO industry trends. These trends show that AI platforms are playing a role in referral traffic. They are also changing how people find things online in 2026.

AI Overviews: Visibility, Click Impact and Citations

Bloom Agency looked at 300,000 keywords. They got these keywords from Ahrefs Keywords Explorer. They split them into two groups of 150,000. One group had keywords with AI Overviews. The other group had keywords without AI Overviews.

Bloom Agency used Google Search Console data. They calculated the monthly click-through rate on desktop, for each keyword. They did this by dividing clicks by total impressions. Then they compared click-through rates. They looked at December 2023 before AI Overviews and December 2025. They wanted to see how AI Overviews affected click-through rates.

Key Findings:

1. AI Overviews were associated with a 58% reduction in click-through rate for the No. 1 organic position.

2. When we looked at the impact of AI Overviews on click through rates we saw that it changed depending on where something ranked. For example things in the number 2 spot saw a drop of 50.8 percent things in the number 3 spot saw a drop of 46.4 percent things in the number 4 spot saw a drop of 38.8 percent and things in the number 5 spot saw a drop of 32.6 percent when AI Overviews were present.

We took a look at 146 million search engine results pages to see how often AI Overviews show up across 86 different types of keywords including things like whether a keyword is, about Your Money or Your Life how much it costs per click and how long the search query is.

3. Looking at 146 million search engine results pages on desktop computers from September 2025 we found that AI Overviews showed up for 21 percent of keywords.

4. In the group of search engine results pages we found that 57.9 percent of searches that were questions triggered AI Overviews.

5.Looking at the dataset and I found out that when people searched for things, with seven or more words, almost half of the time they got AI Overviews. This happened 46.4% of the time.

6. When people only searched for one word it was a very different story. In the dataset only 9.5% of these single-word searches got AI Overviews.

7. In that dataset AI Overviews showed up in 7.9 percent of searches for local stuff. They also appeared in 7.9% of searches when people looked for things near them. AI Overviews popped up in 7.9 percent of search queries, in the dataset.

8. In the dataset AI Overviews showed up in 13.1 percent of queries that had brand names compared to 24.9 percent of queries without brand names.

9. In this analysis AI Overviews appeared for 16 percent of all desktop keywords, in the United States.

10. In Bloom Agency looked at how people use AI Overview and found out that almost all of it 99.9% is used to find information. They also found that 5.5% of AI Overview keywords are used to buy things 1.2% are used to make a purchase and 0.1% are used to find a website. It is worth noting that some AI Overview keywords can be used for than one thing so the total can be more than 100%.

11. In Bloom Agency also found that 80.03% of AI Overviews show up when people search for things that’re not related to a specific brand, which shows that AI is helping people find things when they search for general terms not just when they search for a specific brand.

These numbers, about AI Overview and search engine optimization are important because they show how people can find things easily when they use AI to search even if they do not click on as many things as they used to. This is going to change how we measure and talk about search engine optimization performance in 2026 and how we think about AI Overview.

Performance and Page Experience (Mobile and Desktop)

1. In 2025, 48% of mobile websites achieved good Core Web Vitals compared to 56% on desktop — an eight-point gap.

2. Bloom Agency looked at how well web pages were doing. Found out that sixty two percent of pages on mobile phones were doing a good job of loading the most important parts of the page quickly which is called the Largest Contentful Paint. This is not as good as desktop computers, where seventy four percent of pages were doing a job. At the time thirteen percent of pages on mobile phones were really slow at loading the Largest Contentful Paint, which is a lot worse, than desktop computers, where only seven percent of pages were that slow.

3. Bloom Agency’s analysis showed that 77 percent of websites had good Interaction to Next Paint or INP. This was up from 74 percent in 2024. Desktop performance was much higher at 97 percent.

4. The middle mobile homepage size was 2.6 MB in 2026. This was an 8.4 percent increase from 2.4 MB in 2024.

5. Mobile JavaScript sizes were also measured. Home pages had 632 KB of JavaScript. Inner pages had 660 KB.

These SEO stats show that page experience really matters. It affects how people engage make conversions and impact SEO results, in the run. Mobile websites and their performance are critical.

Traffic, Referrals and Conversion

1. AI and search crawling was up 32% year over year in April 2025.

Here is the revised version:

2. Bloom Agency looked at the numbers and found that training is what makes up 80 percent of the things that artificial intelligence is looking at which’s up from 72 percent from the year before.

3. Between July 2024 and July 2025 the amount of times GPTBot looked at things went up a lot from 4.7 percent to 11.7 percent.

4. From January to July 2025 Anthropic had a change in how often it looked at content compared to how often that content was actually used it went from 286,930 to 1 to 38,065 to 1.

5. Over the time OpenAI had a small change in how often it looked at content compared to how often that content was used it went from 1,217 to 1 to 1,091 to 1.

These insights help make digital marketing and search engine optimization reporting better by looking at how artificial intelligence looks at things and connecting that to the plan, for what content to make how to make it visible and how to take care of the website.

Refine Your 2026 SEO Action Plan

Search Engine Optimization continues to be one of the long-term growth channels but the approach to Search Engine Optimization has evolved significantly. Artificial Intelligence Overviews are expanding, click-through rates are under pressure and first behavior is driving more zero-click search outcomes.

The real opportunity now is not just ranking in Search Engine Optimization. Building a complete Search Engine Optimization ecosystem where visibility, credibility, user experience and conversion all work together in Search Engine Optimization. Based on this shift here is a 2026 Search Engine Optimization action plan you can apply:

1. Benchmark current Search Engine Optimization performance by industry. Focus on conversion rate, click-through rate and lead quality instead of rankings alone in Search Engine Optimization.

2. Segment priority keywords into buckets. Artificial Intelligence Overview-heavy local intent, shopping intent and traditional organic. And measure Search Engine Optimization performance separately for each.

3. Prioritize optimization of pages most exposed to click loss, high-intent service pages, location pages and eCommerce category pages in Search Engine Optimization.

4. Focus on updating and consolidating existing content than continuously publishing competing pages in Search Engine Optimization.

5. Build value “destination” assets that cannot be replaced by Search Engine Results Pages, such as tools, calculators, templates, comparison pages and expert-led guides in Search Engine Optimization.

6. Improve performance, user experience and conversion flow to reduce drop-offs after the click in Search Engine Optimization.

7. Strengthen authority signals through reviews, third-party mentions, citations and consistent brand information across the web in Search Engine Optimization.

8. Treat Search Engine Optimization and Conversion Rate Optimization as a growth system with continuous monthly testing and iteration in Search Engine Optimization.

This reinforces why Search Engine Optimization statistics matter more than ever. Data-driven decision-making is now essential for maintaining visibility and driving growth in a rapidly evolving search landscape in Search Engine Optimization.

If you want support turning these insights into a growth plan Bloom Agency helps brands with Search Engine Optimization, generative engine optimization, website design and conversion rate optimization to ensure search visibility translates into real business results, for Search Engine Optimization.
